BORN IN THE GARAGE - BOMP PART II ~ Suzy Shaw and Mike Stax

BORN IN THE GARAGE - BOMP PART II, by Suzy Shaw and Mike Stax, is a heavyweight celebration of the roots of rock fandom. With eye-popping cover art by the immortal William Stout, this is the ultimate anthology of rock'n'roll fandom from its inception to its mid/late 1970s heyday.

The book includes 300 pages of reproductions from Greg Shaw's pioneering 70s era zines Who Put The Bomp and BOMP! plus essays by Jon Savage, Alec Palao, Ken Barnes, Suzy Shaw and Mike Stax covering 60s garage and beat, surf, British Invasion, girl groups, rockabilly, acid punk and psychedelia, along with obsessively detailed discographies and label listings, plus reams of readers' letters and never before published material. The sheer volume of historical information is almost mind-boggling. Also included are reprints from Shaw's obscure personal zines, Metanoia and Liquid Love, circulated in 1970-72 to just a handful of friends and fellow writers.

Aside from including a huge selection of Shaw's insightful writing, BOMP! PART II also includes rare early work by celebrated rock scribes like Ken Barnes, Lester Bangs, Lenny Kaye, Richard Meltzer, Dave Marsh, Mike Saunders, Phast Phreddie Patterson and others.

The book also features artwork by underground art legends Jay Kinney, William Stout and Tim Kirk.

Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü To Tour In Support Of "Hot Wax"

Con D'or Records and MVD Audio are proud to announce the tour of Grant Hart in support of his latest release Hot Wax on both CD and vinyl for worldwide distribution.

'80s alternative rock has gone down in the history of music as one of the most fertile and influential musical movements ever - as judged by the amount of notable bands that would subsequently "follow the leaders." And one of the leading lights of the movement was unquestionably Hüsker Dü. After the group's split, drummer Grant Hart moved out front with guitar in hand, and also handled lead vocals on his solo releases. But Hart has spent the last few years working on Hot Wax.

Joining Hart on the disc is a diverse cast of musicians from Godspeed You Black Emperor, Silver Mt. Zion, and Rank Strangers with the tracks being recorded in both Montreal and Minneapolis. Hart explains:

"The song 'Narcissus, Narcissus' is my first attempt at combining ancient Greek mythology and American rock-a-billy. By merging those influences with an ice cream truck atmosphere I think I have found a style that defines this period of my career. 'You're the Reflection of the Moon on the Water' is one of the most organic rock and roll songs that I have ever written. It's style owes a lot to my devotion for Patti Smith. It was inspired by a comment made by a monk during the selection process to find the next Panchen Lhama, who said of one candidate, 'He is the reflection of the moon on the water but he is not the moon'."

As a member of Hüsker Dü (which also included singer/guitarist Bod Mould and mustachioed bassist Greg Norton), Hart played on such all-time alt-rock classics as 1984's Zen Arcade and 1985's New Day Rising, while constantly criss-crossing the U.S. with legendary explosive live shows. Since Hüsker Dü's split in 1987, Hart has sporadically issued solo releases, and was also spotted as a member of the group Nova Mob. He has found a place and function in visual and dramatic art forms as well. Hot Wax will be Grant's sixth solo release overall.

Sid! - By Those Who Really Knew Him

An intimate, full-length, 80 minute documentary on Sid's life to mark 30 years since his death. Plus 10 track audio CD, booklet and more!

Odeon Entertainment and MVD Visual are proud to announce the release of Sid! - By Those Who Really Knew Him on November 17th in North America.

This package, the first intimate full-length 80 minute documentary on Sid's life, marks 30 years since his death from a heroin overdose (he was just 21 years old). Many of those closest to Sid speak for the very first time about this true punk icon who burned out, but never sold out.

This brand new documentary, in association with ITN Archive, charts the fall and rise of Sid Vicious from punk's hero to society's cultural icon of the twentieth century.

Sid's short and controversial life is profiled with interviews from Jah Wobble (childhood friend, founder PIL), Steve Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees), David Vanian (The Damned), Malcolm McLaren (Sex Pistols Manager), Viv Albertine (Flatmate, The Slits), Ron Watts (100 Club), Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Rat Scabies (The Damned), Caroline Coon (Writer and Artist), Vivienne Westwood (Sex Designer), Marco Pirroni (Adam & The Ants), John Tiberi (Sex Pistols Tour Manager), and many more of Sid's close friends.

Featuring previously unseen archive footage and filmed in HD, this new documentary provides the most definitive and intimate life story of the punk hero who truly lived his life with chaos and anarchy. Fuelled with a soundtrack of Sid's own music, this is the faithful telling of Sid's life story by those who really knew him.

In addition to the DVD documentary, this special collector's edition includes a 10 track CD of Sid live in New York's, and a biography booklet profile by best-selling music author Mark Paytress.

Destroy All Monsters 1974 - 1976

Reissue of the long out of print 3CD box set of classic and rare Destroy All Monsters.

Destroy All Monsters 1974-1976 is a re-pressing of the long out of print 1996 boxed set by this seminal noise/avant-rock group composed of artists Mike Kelley, Cary Loren, Niagara and Jim Shaw. It was previously issued on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace! label and is now reissued on the band's label The End is Here. These are early low-fi vintage recordings by Destroy All Monsters when they lived and performed at "God's Oasis" in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Almost too good to be true, the cream of the crop of pre punk American Midwest weirdness.

The New Christs Set To Release First Studio Album in Over Five Years

Former Radio Birdman front man, Rob Younger provides another classic Australian Rock 'n' Roll masterpiece.

Impedance and MVD Audio are pleased to announce the release of The New Christs "Gloria" for North American distribution on August 11, 2009. The latest effort from Australia's Punk/Alternative fivesome is their first studio album in over five years.

It has been an interesting journey since Radio Birdman front man Rob Younger formed The New Christs in 1984 to support Iggy Pop on his Australian tour of that year. A number of single releases featuring several line ups of friends followed before the band recorded and released their debut album 'Distemper' in 1989.

The current version of The New Christs - Younger (vocals), Jim Dickson (bass), Stuart Wilson (drums), Dave Kettley (guitar) and Brent Williams (guitar and keyboard) - were formed in 2006. With two European tours down they are finally set to debut their much anticipated LP in the U.S.

As Australia's most charismatic frontman, Younger has taken The New Christs on a journey that has lasted for parts of 29 years. Records, tours, and different members have all come and gone for The New Christs, but fans can rest assured because with a new LP comes another European tour in the coming months.

Track Listing: Try Something, My Existence, These Reasons, The Wheel, The Posse, Psych Nurse, Impossible Now, Animilization, Daddy's Calling, On All Fours, Bonsoir A Vous
